Modern day 2nd Missouri Cavalry
  Welcome to the 2nd Missouri Cavalry Web site! This site is about the War for Southern Independence and some of the men that fought for what they believed in. It touches on subjects of military, political, historical, the Generals of the Confederacy, some of the flags they carried, what happened to some of the men that belonged to this orphan regiment that fought for so long and far from home, and last but not least, reenacting the conflict of brother against brother. This site is dedicated to the men of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry C.S.A. May they rest in peace. I hope you enjoy it and visit often.

  The present day 2nd Missouri Cavalry C.S.A. is a "War for Southern Independence" (civil war as some folks
call it) reenacting unit. We do this to honor the Confederate soldiers that laid down their lives and fortunes for Southern Independence! We are always searching for honorable men to fill our ranks and help portray the gallant soldiers that went before us in their just and noble cause for Southern Independence! Be forewarned! We are not a politically correct unit! We fly our beloved Battle Flag (Saint Andrews Cross) with pride! We are not ashamed of it and never will be!  It is not about hate, but heritage!

 Our primary mission is portraying dismounted Confederate cavalry troopers, (No, you don't need a horse to have fun portraying cavalry troopers). General Forrest used the dismounted cavalry tactic many times to defeat the Yankees by dismounting his troopers going into battle in his many victories against the Yankees! We also portray Missouri guerrillas (Confederate Partisan Rangers), and the Missouri State Guard (Confederate Missouri State Army). On rare occasions we also portary "Merrill's Horse" 2nd Mo Cav US. We are a family orientated unit and encourage the participation of wives, girlfriend's, friends and children in all unit events. We run a family camp to encourage the participation in the hobby to the next generation. Some of us have tents and others go campaign style (sleep on the ground, it's your choice).

 We  were organized as a unit (1999) by experienced, enthusiastic reenactors that have been in the hobby for many years. We are a unit that strives for perfection in honoring our fallen heroes both on and off the battlefield. We all try to attend our many events and equally share all camp duties. If you are enthusiastic about becoming a reenactor for the Confederate cause please fill out our 2nd Missouri Cavalry Membership Application and mail it in. Or you can just email the info to us at: the2ndmocav@yahoo.com

The location of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry's headquarters is in SW Illinois, close to the St. Louis, MO metro area. We try and keep our schedules to the states of Illinois and Missouri, within 300 miles of St. Louis, Missouri. That covers a large area and there are many events that close to St. Louis, Mo. However some of us that can afford the price of gasoline do go to farther events to KY, TN, GA, IA, OK and IN. The 2nd Missouri Cavalry has been in numerous documentaries and some of us have even been extras in movies. We try to find one event a month during the campaign season that is within the 300 mile range from St. Louis.

 If you think you would enjoy reenacting with a tough Confederate Cavalry unit, that rode with General Forrest to defend the South, and portray some of the South's most courageous soldiers, while educating the public and making new life long friends and having alot of fun and good times, If you are ready to JOIN UP click here. Boots and saddles Troopers! Fall in and ride to glory with the "Butternut Boys" of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry!

 Dixie's Land
written by: Daniel Decatur Emmett

I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten;
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
In Dixie's Land where I was born in,
Early on one frosty morning,
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

CHORUS: Then I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie's Land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie!
Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!
Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!

Old Missus married "Will the Weaver";
William was a gay deceiver!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
But when he put his arm around her,
Smiled as fierce as a forty-ponder!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--CHORUS

His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver;
But that did not seem to grieve her!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
Old Missus acted the foolish part
And died for a man that broke her heart!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--CHORUS

Now here's a health to the next old missus
And all the gals that want to kiss us!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
But if you want to drive away sorrow,
Come and hear this song tomorrow!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--CHORUS

There's buckwheat cakes and Injin batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!--CHORUS
